Stand by for new departure routing.” I signaled Chocks with my closed fist to pull the power back and retarded my own throttles to idle.“Dallas, do you still request unrestricted climb?” “Most affirm,” I answered. Departure then asked if we could remain within four DME to FL300. Thirty-thousand in four miles would require about a 60-degree climb angle. No sweat. “I can remain within NO DME,” I told him.The controller chuckled at that and gave us our new clearance: “Dallas Four One is cleared direct to Buckley, maintain Flight Level four three zero, remain within four DME until above Flight Level three zero zero. Call airborne this frequency.
