While FedEx was at it, they also had Yingling retrofit the Caravans with Garmin G600 suites, incorporating SVT (synthetic vision technology) and Safe Taxi, making Yingling the leader in G600 installs, with around 80 done at the time of our visit. The 208s are turned around in about four weeks, Pickett told us. The avionics department installs and services Universal, Rockwell Collins, and Honeywell equipment, as well as Garmin gear.
As an FAR Part 145 repair station, Yingling is able to handle just about any maintenance requirement. It was one of the first to sign up to sell and service the Cessna 441 Conquest, when it was introduced in 1977 as Cessna’s first turboprop, and Conquests continue to flow into the shops; three were on the floor when we visited, one slated to receive new engines. Jerry Pickett pointed out the favorable Kansas sales tax treatment for aircraft repairs; no tax is charged on parts or labor.
The Right Part, Right Now
Yingling Aviation is the world’s largest Cessna single-engine parts supplier, Pickett said. Its proximity to the factories and a long-standing relationship with Cessna, going back to Dwane Wallace’s reinvention of Cessna Aircraft as a builder of private and business aircraft after World War II, make it a logical choice. Five people are continually on the phone taking parts orders, and a dedicated website (cessnadirect.com) receives orders as well. “Responsive, fast, and accurate is our motto”, according to Pickett.
Training And Sales
Yingling is a Cessna piston CSTAR (dealer) for the state of Kansas, and its flight school, Kansas Aviation, is an authorized Cessna pilot center, using Skycatcher 162, 152 and 172 aircraft. Training is a traditional way to grow customers; the old formula, still valid, was that if you teach five people to fly, one will buy a new airplane someday. Yingling knows that relationships matter when making a purchase decision.
