The Inside Job
Interior installations continue to make up a good chunk of business for Yingling. The firm’s interior design and fabrication department is extensive. Since 2003, Yingling has offered a custom Oasis interior for the Cessna Caravan, creating the “Grandest Caravan”, in Pickett’s words. Many Caravan buyers opt for the luxury seating and comfort of a full or partial Oasis STC’d interior when specing out a new Caravan. It’s possible to choose from several floor plans, including a toilet option.
At one point, Yingling assembled all the Cessna Skycatcher light sport airplanes, as they were received from China, but that function is now performed downstate at the Independence, Kansas factory. We saw Piper Cheyenne, Beech King Air, Mooney and Piper Saratoga airplanes in the shop, so it’s obvious that Yingling works on a lot more than Cessnas.
In The Attic
Lydia Craig manages the Aviator’s Attic pilot shop in the front of the main lobby, a source of just about everything a pilot needs. Aviator’s Attic is a handy resource for the crews stopping through or attending training at one of the Flight Safety International learning centers across the street. Aviation-specific books, manuals, headsets, handheld avionics, clothing, and gifts line the shelves; don’t miss Yingling’s Aviator’s Attic when you’re in town.
Of the 125 Yingling employees, probably none has a more visible role than Lynnsey Nichols, the capable Customer Service Representative at the rampside lobby. The midwestern hospitality exuded at Yingling Aviation attracts a steady flow of corporate, military and owner-flown visitors. They know that, for two-thirds of a century, they have always found a welcome mat out in the Air Capital. As the present man•agement indicates, Yingling will no doubt be around for its 100th birthday. T&T
