Autopilots Central and Skyworthy Interiors refurbished Alan Heuermann’s Mojave with jet-caliber technology and comfort.
The cockpit also underwent a major upgrade including a new Garmin GNS 430W, a GTS 800 traffic system, GLD69A for XM WX datalink weather, and a GMA 340 audio panel. An exist- ing GNS 430 was upgraded to WAAS capability. Finally, the panel was repainted, giving the entire flight deck a modern look.
Heuermann was extremely complimentary of the work that Autopilots Central did on the air- craft. “It’s hard to find piston twin expertise,” he said. “Many of their technicians have decades of experience and vast knowledge, so you know it’s going to be done right.”
Heuermann knows that some would question the wisdom of investing so much in an older air- frame like the Mojave. “Look, I can’t look at as a business decision. I do it for the love of aviation, and because I love this aircraft. This was the last of the big-cabin piston twins. I want to keep it flying for many more years to come,” he said.uy
