The airplane was powered by two Textron Lycoming TIO-540-V2AD engines, each rated at 350 hp, and the right engine turned the propeller counter-clockwise. Thus, this big, powerful twin with its counter- rotating props had no critical engine.
Unfortunately when the Mojave was introduced in 1984, the general aviation market was softening and was growing weaker each year. The combination of rising prices and ongoing product liability lawsuits against the biggest three manufacturers (Piper, Cessna and Beech) led to a steep decline in sales across the industry. In the wake of weak sales and shrinking demand, production of the Mojave was terminated in June 1984 after only 50 airplanes had been built at the Lock Haven, Pa., factory.
