occupying the spruced-up cabin needn’t know the actual age of the airplane, only that it looks like the newest one in the fleet. Between enhancing utility by increasing the number of seats, and adding value by upgrading to new-style fittings, an older airplane can be kept competitive.
For individual owners, AvFab’s products provide an option to trading up to a newer airplane. Given the present economic situation, repairing and retrofitting is a burgeoning business. Extending the useful life of an otherwise-perfectly functional aircraft makes economic sense.
The FAA’s recent service alert on cracking Citation I and II (500/550 series) seat frames led to AvFab’s development of an STC-approved strengthening repair that corrects the problem and satisfies the requirements of the bulletin. As a certified repair station, AvFab can return components to service in airworthy status. Many of the components and services are EASA-approved for installation in European-registered airplanes, as well as FAA certified.
As the company has grown, AvFab has expanded into around 100,000 square feet with a staff of 20-plus employees. The company is still eager to take on new challenges from customers who need an interiors problem solved. Jeff Lowe says, “We’re not innovative; our customers are. We simply respond to their needs.” As airplanes age, the need for AvFab’s services will probably continue to expand in the future. T&T
