NATIONAL BUSINESS AVIATION ASSOCIATION • focusNBAA honored Poberezny in 2001 with the Association’s most distinguished honor, the Award for Meritorious Service to Aviation, recognizing his extraordinary lifelong professional contribution to the worldwideAs Twin & Turbine readers may have heard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) Climate Prediction Center earlier this year reiterated its forecast of a 70-percent chance that hurricane season, which runs from June 1 until Nov. 30, will see an above-average number of named storms. They predict as many as 19 tropical cyclones with winds of more than 39 mph. Of those, they believe as many as nine will become hurricanes and up to five will become major storms – Category 3 or above. As these storms threaten to make landfall in areas that could affect NBAA Members’ operations, the association’s Air Traffic Services (ATS) desk is prepared to provide Member Companies resources to inform their mission decisions.“When U.S. interests are threatened by a tropical weather event, the FAA begins two-a-day teleconferences,” said NBAA Air Traffic Services Specialist John Kosak. “With information and insights from those teleconferences, NBAA ATS will build a hurricane-specific page on the Association’s website.”That page contains information on a storm’s position and strength as well as any air traffic management concerns that might arise as a result. NBAA will also send notifications to Members through its Air Mail system and Twitter, providing informational briefs and links to the hurricane webpage.Follow NBAA’s Air Traffic Services at @NBAA_ATS.aviation community. Poberezny was also a 1999 inductee to the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, OH, and was a recipient of the Wright Memorial Award Trophy. mNBAA Helps Members Make Flight Decisions During Hurricane SeasonReaders, Please Note: NBAA’s DC Headquarters Has RelocatedFor Twin & Turbine readers needing to contact NBAA, please note that the location of the association’s Washington, DC headquarters has moved to a new address in the nation’s capital. The association’s office front-desk phone number remains the same, (202) 783-9000.
