NATIONAL BUSINESS AVIATION ASSOCIATION • focusLeaders From Government, Industry to Be Among NBAA2013 SpeakersNBAA’s annual Business Aviation served as the executive director of the PortConvention & Exhibition is alwaysan event that features leaders from government and industry as keynote speakers for the show’s opening session, and that tradition continues with the 2013 edition of the Convention, which will take place Oct. 22 to 24 in Las Vegas, NV.For example, Michael Huerta, administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will speak at the NBAA2013 Opening General Session, scheduled for Oct. 22 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.“We are pleased to welcome Administrator Huerta to our 2013 Convention, and we look forward to hearing his thoughts and perspectives on the issues of greatest concern to the industry,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen.Administrator Huerta was scheduled to speak at NBAA’s 2012 Convention, but had to amend his plans when Hurricane Sandy, which made landfall in the days just before NBAA’s event, caused major disruptions to the nation’s aviation system.Before his confirmation as FAA administrator on Jan. 1, 2013, Huerta served as deputy administrator of the agency. Prior to joining the FAA, Huerta held senior positions at Affiliated Computer Services from 2002 to 2009, andof San Francisco from 1989 to 1993, and as commissioner of New York City’s Department of Ports, International Trade and Commerce from 1986 to 1989.Also to be featured at the same opening session will be former U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow. He has an extensive record in both transportation and public service, including as the 73rd U.S. secretary of thetreasury under President George W. Bush, in high-ranking positions in the U.S. Department of Transportation as a thought leader on transportation deregulation, as well as prominent advisory roles to three U.S. presidents.He also has considerable experience with transportation and business aviation from his tenure as president, CEO and chairman of CSX Corporation, the third-largest railroad company in the U.S. CSX is a long-standing NBAA Member Company that was recognized in in 2010 with NBAA’s 60-year Safe Flying Achievement Award.“We are delighted that John Snow will be a keynote speaker at our Convention’s Opening General Session,” Bolen said. “He brings a unique perspective in the highest levels of government and as a great CEO, from a great American company, who understands well the important role of business aviation in the global economy.” m24 • TWIN & TURBINE OCTOBER 2013
