Kevin Ware is an ATP who also holds CFI, MEII and helicopter ratings, and is typed in several business jets. He has been flying for a living on and off since he was 20, and currently works as a contract pilot for several corporations in the Seattle area. When not working as a pilot, he is employed part-time as an emergency and urgent care phy- sician for a large clinic in the Seattle area.conversation difficult. Jim and I look at each other and, almost at the same time, say, “we don’t want to go into that stuff.” He lets Victoria Approach know we are canceling IFR as I pull the power all the way back, start a tight right turn onto a close- in base leg and lower the gear. Flat pitch on the three-bladed props act as wonderful speed brakes, and two of the four white VASI lights for BLIrunway 16 change to red as I turn onto a very short final, adding power to decrease the drag and descent rate.Landings on really wet sea-level runways are nearly always smooth, and thankfully my last one on this long trip is no exception. It is getting close to midnight as we taxi through the increasing rain to the hangar. The ground crew is waiting for us and already hasthe tug out, the lights on, and the hangar door open.It was 85 degrees and sunny in Freeport when we left nearly 20 hours ago, and it is now 32 degrees, dark and rainy, as we exit the airplane, stepping into puddles on the ramp. Standing under the hangar door to avoid raindrops as big as marbles, Jim and I smile and say “now, that was a long•hard day.”But, truth be known, it was also a lot of fun. T&T“The Scope team rocks! You all pulled through for us with short notice at the end of the year. Thank you so much!”Ben Marcus jetAVIVA140 E.
