As with many stories in aviation, tales describing the roots of organizations can be some of the most compelling. Wings of Hope is one of those organizations whose history provides such a rich retelling it might almost seem fictional. The characters in this story include astronauts; mid- century, profit-seeking businesspeople; flying nuns; hyenas; Nairobi, Kenyan officials; and single-engine, solo pilots flying across the Atlantic.
