As a matter of interest completely off the point of this article, this can be a heart pumping experience. There is no Reserve allowed and the title must be signed and sent to Barrett Jackson prior to the auction.The bottom line is, when you drive your car onto the auction block, it’s the last time you will drive it and you will get whatever price the auction brings, less the 8-percent fee, the costs of entry, space rental, shipping, and your travel. Forget about bidding on your own car in an attempt to create an artificial reserve; there is also an 8-percent fee to the buyer as well, and then you have the expenses off getting the car home againBack to the point: As an entrant, I had to be there several days prior to the beginning of the auction, in order to place the car in the display area, finalize its presentation, and prepare it to be placed on the block. During this prep time, the rare and very high-end cars were being delivered and displays being prepared.I took the opportunity to visit with a high-end custom builder with one of the premium cars being auctioned. Our discussion turned to the buyers and why they come to Barrett Jackson – not in the interest of seeking a bargain, but instead to buy a unique car at a fair – if not a premium – price.As he explained to me, he can and does build cars to a customer’s exacting specifications.
