destinations in the unforgiving Canadian environment and his answer is quick: “Caravan. One hundred percent.” Ask him why and you get a rationale.Misurka: “It fills a niche that is profitable, and it has a low operating cost. So, for the people that fly in it they get a huge amount of value.“For example, if you’re a Canadian contractor, you want an aircraft that will fly all your tools and building materials. Then you’re going to make a lot of money on that job. When you’re flying north, the cost of the air service isn’t as important as getting all your stuff on one aircraft, and staying on schedule.“Imagine a contractor with three or four guys. They get delayed, and he’s still paying their wages. The Caravan gives good value to the customer, and in turn they demand that aircraft, and that keeps it flying. It keeps it in the air.“Obviously, the more hours you can amortize or spread out the costs of insurance and carrying costs, the more money in your pocket at the end of the day. I was very surprised with the Caravan.“We’ve been running it now a full year, and it’s done remarkable. A very good airplane – it’s the kind of airplane you can depend on. You go out there and it starts. And with the synthetic vision and the TKS, it’s something you can always rely on; it’s something that’s always going to be there.”Added Caravan TKS Ice ProtectionMisurka, who personally has 8,500 flight hours, bought the Caravan used and immediately added TKS FIKI ice protection at CAV Aerospace in Salina, Kan., because he knew that was the key to keeping the airplane in the air in Canada’s ever-present inclement weather.“It was probably one of the first Caravans that was upgraded with the CAV Aerospace system.
