checked through a door on the top of each nacelle. Reaching the oil and fuel fillers may require a stand or ladder. The sturdy landing gear carries 8.50 x 10 main tires and a 6.50 x 10 nose tire, still seen on today’s small King Air, albeit with hydraulic actuation rather than electrical. Unlike the model 35 Bonanza, the maingear swings forward into a semi-retracted position under the nacelles, leaving the wing structure intact.Twelve-volt batteries are installed in each wing, outboard of the nacelle, connected in series. As with the Bonanza, the control surfaces are magnesium, retrofittable in aluminum; flaps are in two sections, an outboard Bonanza-planform flap and a separate inboard one. The elevators are fitted with individual trim tabs, typical of Beech quality, and there’s a trim tab on the left aileron and rudder. The elevators and ailerons have anti-servo tabs to improve control feel.Loading UpBaggage is stowed in both an aft baggage compartment, with its own door, and a nose compartment, whose door must be latched before the engine-starting circuit will activate. Boarding is aided by the retractable steps that drop out of the belly and slide starboard; to keep the curious off the chest-high wingwalk, the stairs can be stowed via a key-activated switch when parked. The gangplank automatically retracts when the right engine’s fuel pressure closes a safety switch, redeploying on shutdown. The right-front seat folds to allow access to the rear of the cabin, or some operators remove the seat to seat two in front and three in the rear. Bonanza-style ventilation/emergency exit windows can be opened in the rear cabin. Cockpit ergonomics also originated with the Model 35, with a center-mounted yoke and piano- key electrical switches. Magnetos and starting controls are on the left subpanel, the fuel panel is on the left wall, and breakers are under a door on the right subpanel.MAdE IN THE USA$1370 $1785Phone (954) 966-7329 FAX: (954) 966-3584 5614 SW 25 St., Hollywood, FL 33023 web: www.survivalproductsinc.comemail: sales@survivalproductsinc.comMARCH 2014TWIN & TURBINE • 11
