Although you undoubtedly have it on your calendar already, we’ll say it anyway: The greatest airshow on earth is scheduled for July 25- 31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wis.“The past, present, and future will all not only be on display at AirVenture, you will be able to see generations of flight in action through the aircraft that defined them,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA and AirVenture chairman.Here’s a quick rundown of the big highlights of this year’s show.NAS OshkoshNow that you’re spooled up on the history of the Naval Air Stations,4 • TWIN & TURBINEby Dianne White Photos courtesy of EAA(see Steve Seibel’s article on page 48) plan to visit “NAS OSH” featur- ing the largest collection of naval aircraft spanning all eras ever assembled in one location. The event coincides with the centennial of naval aviation commemoration. AirVenture is a U.S. Navy “Tier 1” event for the yearlong centen- nial festivities.Among the dozens of unique air- craft anticipated are several World War II and Korean War-era naval warbirds, including the only flying SB2C Helldiver Navy dive bomber in the world, one of two airworthy PV-2 Harpoons, OY1/L-5B USMC Observation aircraft that saw com- bat during the Battle of Iwo Jima, a rare Temco Pinto jet trainer, TBM Navy torpedo bomber featur- ing the paint scheme of the air- craft flown by President GeorgeH.W. Bush, an award-winning SNJ Navy trainer, F8F Bearcat in a Blue Angels paint scheme, Grum- man J2F Duck Navy amphibian, F4U Corsairs, FM2 Wildcat, and F7F Tigercat.Tour the DreamlinerBoeing 787 Dreamliner is sched- uled to make a landmark appear- ance at EAA AirVenture 2011 on Friday, July 29, giving aviation enthusiasts a glimpse into the next generation of commercial airlin- ers. For one day only, attendees can tour the Boeing 787 Dream- liner while it is on static display on ConocoPhillips Plaza and witness it in flight during its arrival and departure. It is scheduled to arrive at 9:30 a.m. on July 29 and depart following that day’s afternoon air show, at approximately 6 p.m.JULY 2011
