Their big announcement was the joint petition the two organizations were filing with the FAA, proposing that the requirement for a third-class medical certificate be waived for non- commercial flying. An equivalent level of safety would be provided by requiring pilots to complete a training course in recognizing and monitoring aeromedical health conditions, to better equip them to self-certify before each flight. The success of glider and sport-pilot operators, for whom the lack of a medical certificate has produced no medical-related safety issues, would seem to support such a proposal.Moving In And Out With The RainThe sometimes-soupy weather often kept the crowd indoors, to the benefit of exhibitors on the trade-show floor and the speakers at the seminars upstairs. Hartford has hotel space and restaurants adjoining and nearby, and there are attractions like the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Windsor Locks, near the Bradley International airport, a few miles up the road.
