Mike Wetzer’s better-than-new Shrike.
Another Shrike Reborn
I have been a reader of Twin and Turbine for a number of years and enjoy every issue. Keep up the good work.
In the December issue, you featured Commander Aero’s Shrike project, which I found to be a nice overhaul but far short of a renaissance or remanufactured airplane. I went through such a project (with great pain and a large amount of money) to finally “get it right” and create what I think is the closest thing to a zero-time “new” Shrike.
These are great flying airplanes and continue to have a strong fan club but there are a lot of shops out there that will tell you they have renewed the airplane when it turns out to largely be a new Garmin, paint and interior. Here is my definition of a reborn Shrike: Turbonormalized IO-720’s, new panel/EFIS/wiring, new air/heat, new hydraulics, everything rebuilt, all aerodynamic mods, and jet grade interior.

Kudos to Kevin
I am the senior flight director at Wings of Mercy. We are the nonprofit Kevin Dingman (From the Flight Deck) donates his time to. We have all been reading his stories and wait impatiently for the next one! They have been very, very entertaining and exciting. He really gives you detail and makes it feel as if you are there with him.
We certainly appreciate Kevin as a WOM pilot and truly hope he continues to fly for us and also continues his great writing!
